How to create an .img file from my SD card

So i want to make backup of my sd card image just like how the orange pi create their own "empty" OS. I tried to use the ImageUSB, but because my SD card is 64gb, it creates 64gb file that i believe mostly empty. Is there a better efficient way to do this?
